Next Program: Strategies for Preventing Falls
Date: Tuesday, November 10th 2015 5:30-7pm
Location: Country Inn and Suites, State College PA
Presenter(s): Jonathan Adams, MD, Associate Professor, Family & Community Medicine Faculty, Penn State Hershey Family and Community Medicine & Nicki Vithalani, MD, Resident, Penn State Hershey Family and Community Medicine
As our parents age, for a number of reasons, they are more prone to falling. Often, a fall results in significant injury requiring immediate medical attention. In addition, all too frequently, falls have lasting effects, requiring long-term rehabilitation services and seriously impacting an aging parent’s mobility, activities of daily living, and independence in their home and community.
A serious fall may even result in death or permanent health issues as well as life-altering changes in mobility, balance, confidence, and independence. The good news is that many falls are preventable. Attending to medical conditions and medications, making even slight changes to a parent’s activities, and/or making modifications in their home can reduce the risk of falling and help aging parents remain safe and more independent for longer periods of time. If we can be proactive in our aging loved ones care, we may be able to prevent serious complications in the future.
We will hope you will join us for our FREE educational program. This program is designed to help adult children gain insight into the world of aging, and how we can take proactive steps to help our loved ones live safe and happy lives.
