ACAP-Hickory Now Offers an Evening Support Group!

In response to interest, ACAP-Hickory has begun an evening support group on the second Tuesday of each month, immediately following the ACAP-Hickory program. The support group meets 7:15-8:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Facilitated by Sue Bumgarner, Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University, participants will be guided through a discussion of the ACAP-Hickory monthly program topic with time for deeper discussion and understanding of how topics and strategies might apply to you and your family caregiving experiences.

Aging, Anxiety and Depression

  • Date:  Tuesday, November 10 — 5:30 – 7:00 pm
  • Location:  Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Hickory
  • Presenter: Adina Gabor-Gagea, Psy. D., Psychologist, Broughton Hospital and Brian Hissom & Associates

Anxiety and depression are frequently associated with aging.  They may be a result of specific health and medical conditions and/or they may be the result of a physical and social losses.

This program will help adult-child caregivers understand and differentiate between anxiety and depression, recognize the characteristics and potential causes, and offer tips for communicating with our parents and key professionals to manage the conditions.

This ACAP program will assist participants to demonstrate an awareness of and knowledge about:

  1. The characteristics and potential causes of anxiety and depression as people age;
  2. Tips for recognizing anxiety and depression
  3. Strategies for communicating with their parents and key professionals in order to manage the conditions.
