Presenter:  Peter O’Donnell, Ph.D.

As our parents age, many of them experience medical diagnoses, chronic health problems, loss of family members and friends, loss of driving privileges, loss of independence in their homes, and other life changes that may cause them to feel anxious and/or depressed about their circumstances. In addition, some of the health and medical conditions associated with aging, and the medications used to treat them, may cause these conditions, and, everyday activities such as driving, walking on icy sidewalks, and managing finances may create greater anxiety as we age. As a result, anxiety and depression may be more common as people age, but that does not mean that the conditions should be dismissed as simply a “normal part of aging.”

This program handout will help adult children recognize symptoms of anxiety and depression in their aging parents, talk with their parents about their observations and concerns, and identify resources to help their parents reduce and/or manage their anxiety and depression.

We will hope you will join us for our FREE educational program. This program is designed to help adult children gain insight into the world of aging, and how we can take proactive steps to help our loved ones live safe and happy lives.
